Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTP)
What you need to know
What is Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTP)?
It is mandatory for all motor vehicles registered in Australia to carry Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTP). CTP insurance is liability insurance that covers personal injury or death of another person in the event of a motor vehicle accident.
The Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTP) covers you for personal injury claims made against you by other road users such as drivers, passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and pillion passengers involved in a motor vehicle accident.
Who needs Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTP)?
In most states except for Queensland, New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory, the CTP insurance premium cost is included in your motor vehicle registration.
If you live in the state of Queensland or New South Wales or the Australian Capital Territory and own or operate a motor vehicle, you need a Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTP) policy in place prior to registering your motor vehicle.
